Well,
there weren’t too many surprises at the latest NJ
Free Poker Bar-Tab Satellite Tournament, which took
place on July 7th and 8th at Blvd Bar and Grill, in
Elmwood Park. On Saturday, two separate sessions
(4:30PM and 6:00PM) hashed it out, until only five
players remained from each. This time, instead of
having the players from the earlier session wait
around, the survivors all came back to the same
location, on the following evening.
Here’s how it turned out:
Finishing Tenth, and amongst the Top-5 on the NJ
Free Poker leader-board was NJFP regular, Thomas
Wong. Ninth went to relative newcomer David Carper,
and capturing the Eighth place position was,
non-other than our current points leader, Helen “The
Black Widow” Chen.
In Seventh, and in the number one position on the
Todd-a-Roo charts, was long-time NJFP aficionado,
Chris Van Cleve, followed by Rich Kaluzny, who
captured Ninth at the last NJFP Final Tournament.
All of the aforementioned received a $10.00 Gift
Certificate for Blvd Bar and Grill. Dawn Shipwash
ended up in Fifth, and was awarded a $25.00 Gift
Certificate.
Then things got interesting. Three of the four
remaining players participated in the turning hand
of the match. On the button was, surprise, surprise;
Lee “Gel from Hell” Balestier (fourth on the
leader-boards), with “Just” Ray Harmon in the small
blind position and “Razor” Ramon Javier, Jr. posting
the big blind, while long-time NJFP player, Julio
“Julito” Tavarez watched and waited for the dust to
settle.
All three pushed all-in on the flop, which came:
7-2-4 and showed two hearts. Lee seemed confident
when he revealed his J -7, both hearts, giving him
top pair with a flush draw. However, his confidence
faded when Harmon showed his 7-4, and the top
two-pair. Javier, Jr., who had Balestier and Harmon
covered, flipped over his bottom pair of 7-2, which
seemed weak in comparison. But, this being Texas
Hold’em, the game where anything can happen, proved
to be just that.
And, on the Turn… Ramon managed to suck out another
deuce, giving him a full-boat; 2’s full of 7’s. And
then, it was down to the River. Rob “Lord of the
River” Grosch, had a previous commitment, and in his
place was senior lead-dealer, Ken “Speed Demon”
Schepps. Would Kenny become the new Lord of the
River?
Lee was drawing dead, and only a four could give Ray
the winning hand, but it was not to be. There was no
new Lord, and Ramon knocked out both players in one
shot. However, for Balestier, Ken may be his Knight
of the River, as he showed the final card, another
Jack, giving Lee the second-best hand, with the top
two pair of J-7. Harmon finished in 4thand took home
a $25.00 Gift Certificate for Blvd Bar and Grill,
and Balestier captured 3rd and a $50.00 Certificate
for a NJFP Sponsored Satellite Seat.
Meanwhile, Julio “Julito” Tavarez, who had been
patiently awaiting the outcome, was undoubtedly
planning his strategy for heads-up action against
chip-leader, Ramon “Razor” Javier, Jr. Tavarez did
manage to gain some ground within the first few
hands, but The Razor wasn’t about to give it up
easily. Despite his best efforts, Julito could not
overcome the chip-lead, and finished in a very
reverent second place. Julio was awarded a $100.00
Certificate and Ramon received a $150.00
Certificate, for another NJFP Sponsored Satellite
Seat. We will keep you informed as to how they did
at their respective events.
Congratulations to the winner of this month’s
Bar-Tab Satellite Tournament, “Razor” Ramon Javier,
Jr., and thank you to everyone who took part in the
Bar Tab Satellite Tournament, with a special thanks
to the NJFP dealers for all of their hard work and
dedication!
UPDATE: Ramon Javier entered a $50 Satellite
Tournament at the Borgata with his Sponsorship
monies. I am happy to report that Ramon captured 7th
Place and took home more than $700.00 for his
efforts. Congratulations to Ramon! |
